On Tuesday 8th October Sutton on Derwent Year 3 children came to Uncleby. The focus for their visit was “rocks & soils.”
The children took a learning walk down Manor Farm dale looking at and discussing various elements of rock and soil formations. The children enjoyed exploring and investigating.
Mike dug up some grass to look at the root system. He showed them how different grasses grow under different conditions like the reed grass grows in boggy areas
The children collected stones and rocks to take back to school to make rock sculptures
Back at the Education Centre the children went into the field to do some “worm charming”
the longest worm was 6cm long!
Each group made a wormery using the different soils that they had found down the dale.
After lunch the children went outside to make mud sculptures..
An Owl and a Ladybird, aren’t they great?
Mrs Hopwood (the class teacher) said “We all had a wonderful day at Uncleby Education Centre. The staff are fabulous and provide a unique and amazing learning experience for the children in the most beautiful countryside setting!”
